Safe Event Venues in Singapore: Status in Phase 2 Reopening

white-rabbit-hole-event-venue-singapore

As Singapore entered into Phase 2 last Friday June 19 2020, we were able to regain some sense of normalcy: being able to meet up with up to 5 people at a time, dining out at restaurants, and even going to the gym. The government has also allowed people to hold weddings with up to 10 people at home, ROM or the ROMM or up to 20 people at other venues (this has since been updated to allow 50pax at certain events). However, safe distancing measures, including maintaining 1m distance, must continue to be followed so we can move towards Phase 3. So what do these new protocols mean for hosting events or meetings and which are safe event venues in Singapore?

Activities Allowed to Resume

Here’s a quick recap of what businesses are allowed to resume during Phase 2:

  • Retail businesses
  • Sports, parks, and other public facilities such as playgrounds, beaches, swimming complexes, sports halls, gyms, function rooms
  • Home-based services
  • Personal health and wellness activities

Larger venues such as malls and standalone retail outlets however, must have strict capacity limits to control human traffic and prevent the build up of crowds and long lines. For a full list of what is and isn’t allowed, visit the official Singapore Government Agency website

Can We Hold Events?

It’s important to remember that some activities, particularly those that involve people being in close contact for long periods of time, will take more time to resume. The following are some examples of these events:

  • Religious services and congregations
  • Large cultural venues such as libraries and museums
  • Large events and venues such as conferences, concerts, and trade fairs
  • Entertainment venues such as bars, nightclubs, cinemas, theatres, and karaoke outlets

That being said, there are some events and meetings that can take place outside of the virtual world: weddings and solemnisations are allowed to resume with a maximum guest capacity of 20 in venues other than the home or the ROM (where up to 10 guests are allowed), with other events allowed to resume as we progress through Phase 2 (starting August 4, restrictions were further eased to allow for 50 pax at certain events). Safe Event Venues for Physical Meetings and Trainings

Employers are asked to continue telecommuting and to ensure safe distancing measures are put into place. For many, working from home remains the safest solution. However, for those who need an alternative workspace once a week or a couple of times a month, renting meeting rooms or training rooms on an hourly or daily rate is a viable solution.

These venues can be found in flexible workspaces such as coworking spaces and serviced offices. They have redesigned their locations to ensure the health and safety of everyone present, as well as encouraging everyone to use the SafeEntry app to check in and check out. Some of these new protocols include ensuring 1m distance between members, seating and spacing markers, health declarations, temperature checks, and requiring all visitors to have appointments before arriving at the space.

Consequently, businesses can ensure they are following safe distancing policies without spending on office renovations. It will also help companies offer their teams short-term workspaces at cost-efficient prices. Alternatively, you can rent private offices or obtain a hot-desk subscription to house split-teams across Singapore on a monthly basis. These will help companies stay agile during this period of uncertainty.
