Christmas Events Not To Miss

It is the finally the day before Christmas! Party hosts/hostesses would be busy ticking items off the checklist for their Christmas even party while guests would be frantically scrambling all across Orchard Road to find the most versatile and unisex item within budget for the present exchange for a random, anonymous stranger perhaps. Well nobody wants to be known for being that terrible gifter, right?

But if the above does not sound like your agenda for the festive season, fret not. All hope’s not lost. There’s more to Christmas Eve than lazing on your couch eating takeout and watching Elf rerun on the television. Also, all around Singapore, there are more things to do than you think! Here are 4 Christmas events you should not miss if you do not have a plan yet.

1. Mystica 2013

In spite of the recent addition of the River Safari, I am pretty sure that the last memory of the zoo that many of us have would be a primary school excursion involving an animal show, a bag full of snacks and a half-crumpled activity sheet in our hand. This Christmas, why not take the opportunity to revisit the zoo?

Mystical 2013 – Wildlife Wonderland is a refreshing way to spend Christmas! With the story set in Night Safari, the event is centered around the following plot:

Night Safari’s clumsy resident Forest Fairy accidentally unleashes powerful magic, transforming the deep, dark rainforest of Mandai into a Wildlife Wonderland where things and animals don’t seem to be the way they are supposed to be…

Come witness the magic and see Night Safari in a different light this December!

With activities like neon face painting and an animal enrichment trail, a glow-in-the-dark photo booth, a dress-in-your-best contest and an enchanting lighting extravaganza, your Christmas at the Night Safari will certainly keep you entertained with loads of photo-worthy memories.

Dates: 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 Dec
Time: 6 – 9.30pm
Admission: $35 (Adult), $23 (Child)
Activities are free of charge, but admission applies for entry into Night Safari.

 2. Christmas Carnival at Singapore Flyer

Second on the list is yet another attraction that the country can be proud of – the biggest observation wheel in the world! (Well, we can celebrate this title at least until the Las Vegas Ferris wheel starts operations next year – standing at just 9 feet taller)

To most of us, the Singapore Flyer is nothing more than a tourist destination and an iconic landmark that gives the city skyline a certain majesty and character. But this holiday season, the tourist attraction transforms into a family-friendly destination for the festive season! Packed with loads of activities for the kids like children’s rides, bumper cars and huge inflatables, the Uncle Ringo carnival will surely put a smile on the little ones’ faces. Not to forget, what’s a Christmas without performances and festive bazaars?

Also, you may want to take the opportunity to take a ride on the Singapore Flyer on this occasion too, if you haven’t. The Christmas packages are quite a great deal! We can assure you that the view is even more spectacular by night than by day 😉

3. Universal Studios Singapore

The mention of the biggest amusement part in Singapore is bound to delight both children and adults alike. Yes, the tickets are a bit more costly than most attractions in Singapore, but one thing we can all agree on is that USS does have its “Disneyland effect”. For just one day, it would be as if work never existed and the holiday season was all you knew.

This year, Universal Studios Singapore upped their game a notch by giving visitors something they’ve always wanted in Singapore but never got (and probably never will, depending on how erratic Mother Nature plans to be) – SNOWFALL! Apart from the Sesame Street characters, the old school classics will be accompanied by the widely-loved yellow monsters in denim overalls making their appearance – the minions! From 1 to 30 December 2013, the amusement park will extend its operating hours til 10pm just so you can enjoy the dancing lights underneath dark skies – a lovely view you don’t get to see everyday since they usually close at 6pm just when the sun is about to set!

Dates: 1-30 Dec 2013
Time: 10am -10pm
Admission: $74 for Adults, $54 for Children, $36 for Senior Citizens (Day pass)

4. Ice Art

If mock snowfall on a 30 degree celsius day doesn’t sound like much of a thrill, then we’re pretty sure that subzero temperature will interest you! A must-visit event extending into 2014, the Ice Art 2013/2014 is Singapore’s largest Ice Sculpture Exhibition so far, and there is truly no better time to visit this installation than on Christmas. Featuring sculptures of iconic landmarks around the world ranging from Big Ben to the Eiffel Tower, the exhibition is the skillfully put together by award-winning masters and embedded with LED lighting, making the whole place look enchanting and magical like how Christmas should be.

As the only time you’re going to need gloves and a winter coat in sunny Singapore, we’re pretty sure that this ice exhibition is going to make your Christmas a blast this year! Still not convinced? We’re pleased to announce that there’s also a playground made entirely out of ice (how cool is that?!) for the children as well as an ice bar that serves drinks in mugs made out of ice!

Date: 20 Nov 2013 – 15 May 2014
Time: 10am  – 10pm daily (Ice Bar 3pm – 3am)
Venue: Sheares Link (Beside MBS)
Admission: Standard: $32 for adults, $26 for Children (9-12 years old), $22 for students (promo till 31 Dec)
