Review: Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

Ah, sunlight – it makes everything better. From illuminating perfect Instagram photos to bestowing a golden sheen to our skin, that natural gift from Mother Nature gives everything an enviable spa-glow quality.

Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Spa & Resort, languishing in natural daylight, has been a choice destination for events seeking that same quality, from luxurious weddings to business conventions. The french brand brings a sophistication to their facilities, all highlighted by their resort property set against a backdrop of lush greenery and the stunning South China Sea.

Instead of a sterile building, have your business associates step through the breezy marbled-floored lobby of Sofitel Sentosa. Overhead, a soft light spills from pyramid panels, casting a soft glow on the dramatic hanging art piece inspired by the Milky Way. The presence of avant-garde art pieces completes the French art de vivre philosophy amidst the distinctively colonial compound.

Venturing into the sprawling premise, sheltered walkways bring you to the Celebrations & Events Centre (CEC). This 1,300sqm facility houses 2 ballrooms with attached foyers, as well as 5 function rooms. All these can be further partitioned into smaller spaces to serve both grand conventions and intimate soirees.

Sofitel InspiredMeetings™ – Not “business as usual.”

The Straits Ballroom is their largest space, catering up to 280 in a theatre-style arrangement. Full panel windows bring the outdoors in, as sunlight spill in generously from two of the walls. The wood and carpet of the ballroom is softened by the green foliage and manicured lawn that runs around site. If the sparkling South China Sea outside proves too much of a distraction, black-out curtains come down and let the state-of-the-art projectors and screen tell your business story with impact and flair. And when it’s time for a break, let your delegates exit to the side where refreshments stand ready at the Straits Verandah.

Weddings might benefit from the more elegant execution of the Saffron Ballroom. The parquet floor sets off the white linen from banquets perfectly, and are flanked by framed mirror panels, cleverly disguising doors for that surprise bride reveal! Like some otherworldly cloud, the fibre-optic lighting on the ceiling creates a canopy of magic and romance in this ballroom for 170.

Receiving guests can be done indoors at the Saffron Ballroom foyer but for solemnisations, the nearby Spice Island Point will be a memorable spot for those vows. With palms and tropical flora framing the dazzling sea, your moments will be witnessed by the literal heavens. Wedding celebrations include use of an exclusive personal bridal suite nearby.

For smaller meetings and discussion panels, there’s always the Ginger Room, Nutmeg Room and Cinnamon Room. Located below the ballrooms, these modular function rooms named after locally-found spices, are great for business meetings and brainstorming sessions. Down a staircase, a corridor leads you to the three separate spaces, each with a tv screen by the main doors to indicate event and group – helpful when multiple are present.

Each room comes tastefully decorated, with coral and marine carpets, gold and wood trimmings and abundant sunlight from full-height windows and glass doors. Your sessions of 27 – 45 pax will no doubt have a warm and motivating ambience in such unexpected settings. These rooms also feature a dedicated cosy coffee corner, with in-house selection of hot beverages and pastries ready for a grateful guest.

The CEC also features a dedicated driveway, attached to a colourful lobby dotted with curated art pieces. Visitors also enjoy free parking nearby.

The Sarong Room is the hotel’s last offering. Down a flight of stairs from the main lobby, the function room is 170sqm and features the same technical amenities as the others. Even in this space the sunlight filters down an airwell into the room, past a dreamy set-up of shrub and vegetation. In total the space can accommodate about 150, but for really intimate discussions, the room can be divided into four parts, all with their own entrance and presentation tools.

“Our aim is to customise and cater to the needs of the client, and create events that are inspired by you, staged by us.”

The Sofitel Sentosa may initially seem like an unlikely business event venue, but while professional setups are very much a dime-a-dozen, it hardly comes with the motivating forces of such natural elements. Even when night falls, as flickering lights pop up in the hurricane lanterns situated all around the property, the Sofitel Sentosa continues to leave an indelible, refreshing and magical experience for all experiencing your event.
