5 Valentine’s Day Venues Away From Town

With today being Valentine’s day, there’re many things we can prepare ourselves to see. People will receive huge balloons, clogging up walkways with said inflatables in your face. Flowers will suddenly be 2-3 times more expensive –  just because. Also, there will be chocolates, Tiffany blue gift bags, fancy dinners, and an Instagram timeline filled with all of the above.

Another thing to brace ourselves for will be the crowd. People everywhere! Town area will be as packed as National Day on Orchard Road, Christmas Day on Orchard Road, New Year’s eve on Orchard Road. Okay, really just like any other day on Orchard Road actually. The fact is that we’re a tiny island!

So if you’re not a fan of crowds (who is?), or if you haven’t made a dinner reservation, the telepathic SOS you’ve sounded off is well received. Here’s a well-thought list of places away from the town/central area for a quieter Valentine’s Day. What’s more, they’re all budget friendly so you need not worry about having to dig deep into your pockets to pay for special set meals and fancy heart shaped vegetables.

1. Nine Thirty by Awfully Chocolate

Dine in the comfort of simplistic Scandinavian interior design at Nine Thirty. This Deli Bistro by the established Awfully Chocolate serves a variety of pastas, salads and meat dishes. Needless to say, don’t leave this place before the mandatory dosage of their desserts! And if you really must have Laksa in Katong, you can give the Laksa Tagliatelle on their dinner menu a shot 😉

2. &Made

&Made is the brainchild of 3-Michelin star chef – Bruno Menard. We know what you’re thinking. It’s probably going to be all fancy pansy stuff like atas (high class) crockery and cutlery but.. no! &Made is about everyday food (burgers, fries, smoothies, salads) with a gourmet twist. Have fun enjoying his creations in both the taste and looks department.

With any dessert order, diners can enjoy a free cup of coffee or tea by giving their companion…a kiss! No, we’re serious. PDA? You’re excused. Way to go in spreading love this Valentine’s Day!

3. Wawawa

Wawawa is a bistro located in Bedok Reservoir Park, just behind Temasek Polytechnic. The menu boasts of comfort food like pizzas, pastas, burgers, pancakes – all with a touch of German cooking traditions. If you’re looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Wawawa will give you just that. The view of the reservoir is the cherry on top.

4. Coffee Daily

We’re all familiar with Serangoon Garden Circus, but tucked away in the estate is this small cafe called The Coffee Daily. As its name would suggest, coffee is the place’s forte. Accompanied by latte art and rainbow cake, there’s no reason you’re going to give it a miss! The place serves light bites so we recommend it if you and your partner are small eaters.

Another highlight worth a mention is the place’s furnishing – it’s rich in local old-school flavor. Complimentary iced gem biscuits by the counter too, anyone?

5. SocialHaus

One of the gems in Tiong Bahru is SocialHaus, sitting along Yong Siak Street a hip bar and restaurant. The place serves contemporary western food (specialties include beef stew and chicken pesto pasta) at affordable prices, accompanied by a variety of drinks for you and your date to unwind and relax on a fuss-free and laid back Valentine’s day! Don’t fancy alcohol? They’ve always got gourmet coffee.

We hope you have an amazing Valentine’s Day with your significant other, family, or friends. Who said you have to be half a couple to celebrate the occasion? 😉
